Police Records Bureau

The Jefferson Township Police Records Bureau manages all records for the police department and is currently staffed by two full-time and one part-time civilian employees, and Records Custodian, Sgt. Paul Castimore.  All requests for information such as discovery, motor vehicle crash reports and incident verifications are processed through our records bureau.  Requests for motor vehicle crash reports can now be made on-line through our website.  Click HERE to access our on-line police report request form.  We can also fax or email reports upon request.  For all other police reports, we do provide incident verifications, which outline the basic details of a reported incident.  An incident verification can be submitted to an insurance company, for instance, to report a claim.  Incident Verifications are available five to 10 business days after the date of the incident.  Please click HERE for information on the cost to obtain police reports.

Effective July 8, 2002, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1
"Open Public Records Act" (OPRA):

  • Criminal investigatory records and victim's records are not public infomration.  Incident verifications for insurance purposes will be issued.
  • Arrest information can be released under certain criteria.
  • Most Domestic Violence discovery requests must be made through the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
  • Most accident reports are public information.
  • Defendants charged with a crime or offense may request Discovery through the Municipal Prosecutor under R. 7:7-7.

Click HERE to access a  Government Records request form, or you may stop by our Records Bureau window and request one

Not all police records are public information.  Because they are required by law to be filed, motor vehicle crash reports, in most cases, are public records and can be obtained through request.  Criminal Investigatory Reports Are Not Public Information, which includes most police type reports.  Motor Vehicle Crash reports are generally available three to five business days after the report is made.  For more information  concerning public access to police reports, you may contact Sgt. Paul Castimore at (973) 208-6147, or Public Information Officer, Capt. Eric Wilsusen at (973) 208-6150. You may also email Captain Wilsusen and Paul Castimore, or any of our Records Clerks listed below, by clicking on their email links on our Contact Information page.  For additional information, please also visit the New Jersey OPRA website.

The Jefferson Township Police Records Bureau is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  If you are unable to visit the records bureau during business hours, arrangements can be made in advance to have accident reports and verifications left for you to pick up after hours.  To make such arrangements, or for any questions you may have, during business hours you may contact our main number (973) 697-1300 and ask for the Records Bureau, or you may contact one of our Records Clerks directly as follows:

Sandra Guerin (973) 208-6156
Janice Amoruso (973) 208-3635
